Summer 2022 Newsletter

August 2022
Greetings!
Summer is in full swing here in the San Juan’s–a slower pace, boasting warm days, endless sunshine and shimmering waters. A veritable playground for local wildlife, the islands are home to over 200 unique species of birds, magnificent orcas, humpbacks, Steller sea lions and so much more.
The summer real estate market’s pace in the islands has been slowing as well, offering buyers more selection and a stronger seat at the bargaining table.
We hope you find our newsletter informative and always enjoy hearing from our clients; feel free to contact us at any time, we are eager to be the preferred choice for your San Juan Islands real estate needs.

Q2 2022 San Juan County Market Report
Our second quarter market report reveals what many of us would expect in a cooling economy: a commensurate waning in the number of San Juan County real estate transactions. Even so, we are still seeing numbers that are superior to those observed in the years prior to the pandemic (2018-19), when island real estate was relatively robust. Coldwell Banker San Juan Islands continues to command the lion’s share of our market, representing 52% of the islands buyers and sellers in 2022.
Island Gardening
Our islands are teeming with wonderful gardens and the people who cultivate them. Read Jane Sawyer’s latest Blog post all about our incredible island gardens.

2022 San Juan County Fair
The first San Juan County Fair was held in October 1906 on the waterfront in Friday Harbor, a time when agriculture was flourishing in the islands. Farmers and county residents alike were proud to show off the “splendid products of the soil,” the Islander reported. The event drew a crowd of over 1,200, from the surrounding area who came by the steamer. Fair officials later boasted that 1,025 tickets were sold, totaling $302.50 in gate receipts.
Since 1924 the San Juan County Fair has grown from a two-day affair to four days chock-full of activities, now drawing 22,000 visitors. Click HERE for dates, hours and admission information.
